In most cases, all we have to do to clean baby’s toys is wash them with warm soapy water, as this is the best way to remove dirt and grease where germs hide.

In case we have to disinfect the baby’s toys, we can use a disinfectant solution, but before applying it, we have to clean all the grease and dirt from the surface of the toy.

How to clean baby toys

To disinfect the toys, we can use a disinfectant solution suitable for cleaning the baby’s things that is not toxic, which we can buy in nearly any supermarket, grocery store, or online.

If you do not have a disinfectant solution, you can do it yourself. You need 1 tablespoon of bleach, ¼ gallon of water, or ¼ cup of bleach in 1 gallon of water. This solution is considered non-toxic and safe to clean since the chlorine evaporates in a few minutes, but we always have to be careful when using it and to keep it out of the reach of children or pets.

Tricks to clean baby toys easily

  • Use the dishwasher. Most plastic toys that do not have a battery can be washed much faster and easier in the dishwasher. We just need to use a little detergent and hot water to clean and disinfect them at the same time.
  • If we do not have a dishwasher, we can wash the toys in the sink; we will only need a sponge, warm water, and soap. To disinfect, we can leave them submerged in a disinfectant solution and then put them in the drain.
  • To clean battery-operated toys, it is best to first clean the exterior with soap and water, and then with a bleach solution. Finally, we will only have to let the toys dry.

How often do toys have to be cleaned?

That depends, it is best to clean them when one or more of the following causes appear.

  • When we find food residues, grease, or dirt.
  • When the baby is recovering from an illness.
  • When other children put the toys in their mouths.

It is best to clean the toys at the end of each month. Remember to let the sanitizing solution dry completely before giving the toy back to your baby. Keep in mind that learning how to clean a baby’s toys correctly is just as important as learning how to sterilize bottles! Making sure their immune systems are developing properly is always a top priority for any parent.
